About
I am a wife and a mother, a daughter and a granddaughter. Here recorded are trugars–true stories–from the life and history of my great-grandmother, and my life and history as I write a book about her.
You probably want to know more than that though, so I’ll give you a little background.
I am the eldest of five children, grew up on 27 acres in North Florida, and was homeschooled for all but 2nd and 3rd grade. I graduated from college with a degree in Piano Pedagogy and a degree in Creative Writing, married the love of my life (a Northerner *gasp!*), and starting thinking about becoming a mommy myself. My husband joined the Marines after we had been married a year and a half, so that has been a new adventure, and we are currently expecting the arrival of #2 (and maybe #3?? – I hope!) in November.
“Big Mommy” was the name coined for my great-grandmother, and she was the matriarch of my family. She was born on September 21st, 1909, and went home to be with Jesus on November 25th, 2009, at just over 100 years of age. I am so grateful for the precious memories she shared with me.

What a lovely welcome! May God bless your sweet growing family!
Thank you! And welcome to Trugars!
hello, I found your blog through money saving mom (thanks for sharing that about credit cards, I had no idea!) I had a great grandmother that was very special to me and lived to be just over 100 too. You’ve got a sweet little girl.
Thank you, Jerilyn! I’m so glad you stopped by, and so glad you liked the post on Money Saving Mom. I’d love to hear more about your great-grandmother! Maybe you could share some of her “wise words” on my “Wise Words Wednesday” next week!
